Amie Russell, from Girls Varsity Outdoor Track and Field, took 2nd place in the entire Middlesex League Championship Meet in the Shot Put with a 33' 4" throw and followed it up with a big 6th place finish at the D3 State Championship tossing 32' 7" earning her first state medal!
Shannon Murphy, starting goalie for Girls Varsity Lacrosse, was nominated for being tremendous in goal during the last couple of weeks of the season, helping to notch a handful of big wins through out the season including a close one over Stoneham last Friday, and for constantly keeping the team into games with amazing saves and outstanding plays.
Chris, from Boys Varsity Tennis, was nominated for being the captain and only senior on the team, successfully leading them to the state tournament, and finishing the regular season winning 3 of his last 4 matches in straight sets.
Carolyn Roney, a Girls Varsity Tennis player, was nominated for being 2-0 so far this week with a likely win on tap this afternoon to make it another undefeated week. She will (most likely) be finishing her season at 14-2 overall and 9-1 in the division playing in the 2nd singles position all season.
Ben Wright, from Boys Varsity Lacrosse, was nominated for being the leading goal scorer on the team this year, always having a positive attitude, and demonstrating leadership both on and off the field.
Ally Moran was nominated for Girls Varsity Softball. On Monday, she pitched a 2 hit shutout and struck out 14 vs. Melrose in an exciting 1-0 win. Also during that game, she registered her 600 career strikeout. At the plate she went 2-3 and she scored the only run of the game. On Thursday she pitched another 2 hit gem and notched another double digit strikeout game (10) in the 6-1 victory over Wakefield. At the plate she went 1-3.
Harry Serounian, a junior Boys Varsity Baseball pitcher, picked up his first Varsity win on Wednesday as he helped the baseball team sweep Burlington this season. Harry pitched 3 innings of shutout relief to get the win in the 10 inning contest. Harry struck out 5, walked only 1, and gave up only 1 hit. He came on in the 8th inning with no outs and runners on base and was able to get out of the inning and extend the game. He was near perfect in the 9th and after we scored the go ahead run in the top of the 10th, he finished the game with 2 strike outs and a weak ground ball to second base to get the win!
From Boys Varsity Outdoor Track, Tyler Thomas was nominated for winning the shot put and discus against Watertown. He also placed 5th out of 42 at the Weston Twilight Meet last Saturday. The Weston Twilight is an elite invitational in which over 180 teams in Massachusetts participate. He has qualified for the state meet in both of his events. His personal bests are 125'4" in the discus and 46'8" in the shot put.
Shannon Barrett, from Girls Varsity Lacrosse, was nominated for getting 4 goals in the game vs. Arlington after being sick and missing a few days just the week before. Keep up the good work!
Colin Rooney was chosen for Male Athlete of the Week because he was the winner of three events (the high jump, long jump, and 110 hurdles) and qualified for the state meet in the long jump against Stoneham last week. He has qualified for the state meet in three events thus far this season. He has high jumped 5'10", long jumped 19'6", and run the hurdles in 16.1.
Emily was chosen as the Female Athlete of the Week for going 2-0 in her matches last week and her overall dedication to tennis. She has been playing first spot singles since her freshman year on the team all the way through her senior year.
Peter Marino, from Varsity Boys Baseball, was nominated for Male Athlete of the Week by his coach for his "walk-off" double, scoring 2 runs in a come from behind win over Belmont. It was only the second time since joining the Middlesex League that the baseball team beat Belmont. Pete also had a 3rd RBI earlier in the game which was won 5-4 and scored once accounting for 4 of the 5 runs. Most recently vs. Burlington, Pete went 2 for 3 with 2 runs scored, an RBI and a stolen base in another "walk-off" win 7-6. Pete has been the model of consistency starting the season, he practices hard, plays hard, and supports his teammates 100%.
Lia Kourkoutas, from Varsity Girls Tennis, was nominated for Athlete of the Week by her coach for going 2-0 this week with straight wins against both Burlington and Wakefield.
